...and I'm glad I'll be dead then.
It pains me somewhat when I look at the history of England and compare it to the history of the world today. Our world is becoming greatly overpopulated. In America, the economy is taking a nose dive because especially with the drive towards lean manufacturing, there are not enough jobs. Large tracts of land are constantly being leveled to put up more housing (cookie cutter developments), and yet I still see people with 4+ children everywhere I look. Not only that, but there are people with much larger families.
These children take tax dollars to educate. Schools are overpopulated and under-funded already. They will one day become part of the already overburdened job market. They will consume land, food, fuels...all of which are on the horizon to become endangered resources given the current population, let alone doubling it by having 4 children to every two people.
This problem isn't just an American problem. I was watching the news a couple of months back and I saw an interview of a woman in Afghanistan I believe. They were talking about how she lives in little lean-to built out of sticks. They showed the structure and I own a backpacking tent that is larger than it. They were talking about how her and her family survive off of the aid that is sent there by other nations and how if they didn't have a better place to live before the rainy season, her and her children might not live. During the time of the interview, she was pregnant with her twelfth child!
Despite the fact that they can't look back at England's history and see how the overpopulating consumed all natural resources and drove the economy into the sewers for the average person, these people could at least look across the world at India, China, etc... and see the same effect.
All I can say is that I'm glad I won't be around in 100 years. Learn history to avoid making the same mistakes? Not likely with the self-centered consciousness of the world today.
